A PlayStation 4 exclusive Spider-Man game made in conjunction with Insomniac Games, Sony and Marvel? It’s a reality no one saw coming, yet its announcement has made every Marvel fan jump with joy.

Below are 5 reasons why Spider-Man PS4 is going to be amazing.

PS4 Exclusive

It’s without a doubt the most powerful console on the market (sorry Xbox), and now Marvel’s most prestigious character can have a game that takes advantage of all the PlayStation 4’s strengths. Heck, this deal even means Insomniac can talk directly with the PS4 hardware team, receiving insider knowledge on how to overcome graphical hurdles and squeeze out even more power from Sony’s black box. After all, “With great power comes great responsibility”.

It’s Not Tied To A Movie

If there were any sure-fire reason for a superhero game to fail, it’s having it tied to an anticipated film. This time Marvel are setting off on the right foot and creating a brand-new universe, that exists outside of the confines of their cinematic ambitions. Now, instead of receiving a game that feels glued together by the demands of a film studio and its share holders, fans will explore a story that’s tailor made to maximise the fun factor.

Its Developer Is World Class

Insomniac Games and Spider-Man sound like a match made in heaven. Not only have the studio developed the utterly charming Ratchet & Clank series, they also have some superb technical knowledge on how to cart characters around an open world with speed and fluidity. Their recent time with Sunset Overdrive clearly shows the potential to present Spidey’s swinging in an elegant and fun fashion. If there’s anything that’s at the core of a Spider-Man game, it’s traversal.

A Focus On Both Parker & His Colourful Alter Ego

Some people might think that if you’re going to play a Spider-Man game, the most fun will be had via webbing up criminals and dolling out justice. Though I’d partially agree with that fact, the core story of Spidey is about a kid that has super powers. Insomniac and Marvel are making an effort to present both sides of the story this time around: one as Spider-Man, and the other as Peter Parker. If you’re going to invest fully into a character that has a secret identity, it’s a good idea to learn about the boy behind the mask.

A Bustling City

If its teaser trailer was anything to go by, Spider-Man PS4 will feature the most realistic video game interpretation of New York City. Regardless of Insomniac’s talent to craft beautiful worlds filled with life and charm, the game’s exclusivity definitely has a part to play. Notice in the trailer how much traffic fills the streets, and how many pedestrians are ambling on the side walk. The lack of any optimisation for other consoles is a huge bonus, since fans can finally get a definitive recreation of Spider-Man’s playground without any concessions. This, by far, is the biggest plus point for having such a tight partnership on its development.

If you haven’t seen the teaser trailer yet, or simply want to gawk at its awesomeness again, check it out below:

Well, that’s pretty much all I have to say at this moment. Of course I can’t wait to see more and relish an opportunity to talk to the devs about finer details. Stick tuned over the coming months up to its expected 2017 release.
