Having attended Gamescom in Cologne for the past two years, I’m more excited than ever to see what’s in store this year, as the convention has never failed to impress. So here are the top 5 things I’m looking forward to seeing at Gamescom, in no particular order.
1. Star Wars Battlefront
Unfortunately, I was not one of the lucky few who got to play the closed Alpha, so I’m extremely excited to be able to have some hands on experience with Battlefront, which is being released in November. As this release date is creeping closer and closer, I’m hoping we get to experience a bit more than the closed alpha players did in their time playing Battlefront. It has also not been confirmed which specific platform you will be playing the game on at Gamescom 2015, but even so, I doubt it will sway my decision to get it on PC when released.
2. Fallout 4
With the release date slowly edging closer, I’m sure nearly everyone is hoping to see some more of Fallout 4 at Gamescom 2015. Bethesda have even stated that the game is “basically done”, now it’s just time to fix some bugs and make sure it all runs smoothly. Fingers crossed we get to try out some actual game play!
At Gamescom 2014, my love for eSports was truly born, after watching a few CS:GO matches and the entirety of the Halo: The Master Chief Collection play offs. This year over 15 games are being brought to the ESL eSports arena, including my all time favourite – CS:GO, as well as others such as Battlefield 4, League of Legends and Halo 5: Guardians.
4. Tom Clancy’s The Division
After seeing some pretty awesome footage of The Division at Gamescom 2014, I’m looking forward to getting some hands on experience with it this year. The game is set to be released in March 2016, with beta testing beginning in early that year, so it may be a while before the game is fully completed.Even so, I’m looking forward to seeing more regarding this title.
VR is something that I haven’t had much of a chance to experience, so the fact that Oculus are bringing both Oculus Rift and Gear VR to the show is pretty exciting. However, it’s not just Oculus that will be showing off their VR gear, Microsoft will also be showcasing HoloLens, undoubtedly in their conference, but fingers crossed that we might also get a sneak peak of it in the convention hall itself.
