ESL has announced a new Counter-Strike tournament in Cologne, hosted a few weeks after Gamescom. Taking place on August 22-23, the event will be able to hold at least 15,000 people, and offer a whooping $250,000 of cash prizes. ESL have hosted at least four counter-strike tournaments with prize funds of $250,000 within the past two years, and in this new contest, the entire prize fund will be supplied my the eSports giants themselves.

ESL are to release more details of the tournaments at a later date, but have confirmed that there will be a total of 16 finalists. ESL’s description of the event being the “world’s largest” is based on the view that they will fill all 15,000 seats in the venue, which after seeing how packed Gamescom’s Counter-Strike tournament, would not surprise me.
